The GET JeepN’ Club went to Bishop, CA to test our Jeeps on some new trails that we haven’t tried before. A matter of fact, it is the furthest we have been from our home in Signal Hill.
After lunch on Friday we went up Silver Canyon trail into the White Mountains. It was a very steep climb, 20% grade in some places, that took us to 11500 feet. We saw big horn sheep multiply times and walked through a forest of bristlecone pine trees, the oldest trees in the world. The scenery and views along the trail were spectacular. On Saturday morning we took off from camp and headed up Coyote Flats trail, which is in the eastern Sierras. This trail took us to just above 10000 feet and to Funnel Lake where we had lunch. We tried to make our trip a big loop that would take us to the town of Big Pine which is just south of our camp. The trail became very rough and changed to a black diamond trail half way down the mountain. A couple of stock Jeeps got stuck on some big rocks that were on the trail. Despite the delay it was a good experience. We were able to use several pieces of recovery equipment to rescue our stuck Jeeps. After freeing them from their predicament we decided to go back the way we came. It made for a very long day, we didn’t get back to camp until 8:30 that evening. Sunday morning we broke down camp and reflected on what a great weekend we just had.
